LIFE DRAWING AND PAINTING

This area of art has the rudiments of so many other art disciplines, it is useful to anybody, whether their ultimate goal is to become a sculptor, potter, illustrator or simply spend time uncovering the many components of the human form.

There are so many skills and techniques that can be developed to represent a models body, and such a variety of materials, but it is not essential that you” can draw” to consider coming on a course.

Line and volume, block-building, use of light and colour tones, the body in motion and relaxed - just a few of the things we will examine during the course. Pen and ink, water-based paints, pastels and charcoal are some of the materials that can be selected for shorter and long studies. Visual references from Old Masters and modern practitioners are shown to illustrate and give a background to these techniques. Past courses have seen a wide diversity of students, from Art teachers to those not involved in art at all. Both term-time and short block courses provide a good basis in Life Studies.

One venue has been Oxford College of Further Education, as well as many other centres in Oxfordshire and beyond. The Summer School at the college attracts an interesting group of students for a week in July, working in a peaceful and spacious studio, which is wheelchair friendly, at the City Centre Campus in Oxford.

Comments about this course:
